It’s SURG! Back to try our hand at radio again in 2010, and we will be broadcasting live from O-Week and through Weeks 1-3 at the one and only University of Sydney campus.
Remember to visit our stall at O-Week to register, buy a T-shirt, mingle, reminisce, and find a time slot for your show. If you’re new to Sydney University (and have somehow stumbled across this website), then good for you. We’ll be amongst the many, many O-Week stalls blasting classic SURG moments from a tinny old portable radio. Come find us!
Updates to come as Semester 1 approaches - in the mean time be sure to join the mailing list by going to the “Contact” tab and joining the SURG Google Group.

Hi all and sundry,
It won’t be too long before SURG kicks off for Semester 2. We are currently awaiting confirmation on the licensing, but broadcast should begin at the start of the VERGE arts festival, on Monday August 31.
We will keep you posted and will take requests for timeslots soon.
Some of you may be familiar with the new radio studio in the Holme building. It is not our expectation that we will be using that studio this semester, but negotiations continue regarding its use in the near future.
You can expect the following later in semester:
* training and development in the new studio
* a SURG industry mixer evening where you can socialise and network with industry names and fellow SURG members
Be sure to check back here for more updates, and there will be an email coming around soon.
Regards,
Michael Koziol

Hi all!
Thanks for contributing to another great session of SURG broadcasts! We had lots of new talent this year and are looking forward to seeing everyone again next semester when we broadcast during VERGE.
We’ll try to organise a bar event for everyone to get together, drink, reminisce and tell tall tales. This will happen before the end of semester, so stay tuned
all my lust,

Hey all,
A few things:
1) Schedule is now finalized, so please take note of where you are and make sure to be in the studio on time
2) Our broadcasting licence has been extended by a week to make up for missing O-Week. That means that there will be two more weeks of broadcasting after this week, and we will finish up on Friday 20th.
3) A big thanks to Mark Gurd from Fresh Noise Productions for creating all our new stings this year! Mark produces at Nova 96.9 and voluntarily put these together for us, and they are fantastic! Check out the website at:
www.freshnoise.com.au
Mark can be contacted at: mark.gurd@bigpond.com if you have any questions about radio production, his own work, etc
thanks, and remember to stay tuned to 90.9!

Hello and thanks for visiting SURG!
Let’s start off with the bad news. Not that there is much good news, but it gets progressively better.
SURG FM will NOT be broadcasting on 90.9 through O-Week. Due to unfortunate circumstances, the transmitter won’t be installed until Monday Week 1 (2nd March). We anticipate full, normal broadcasting will begin on that day. We have inquired to see if the license can be extended by a week to make up for this loss.
REMEMBER - we are still at O-Week! The SURG stall is on the front lawns, and you NEED to come register for membership this year. You can pick up a lovely bright orange t-shirt while you’re there.
ALSO - everyone needs to come to the Training and Defamation Briefing on Monday at 6pm in the Isabel Fidler room at Manning (top floor). This will give you the chance to play with the equipment, learn about the pitfalls of racism, and register a timeslot for your show. BE THERE!
with sympathy,
Michael Koziol
